The Dionaea m. "Whale" is a new introduction from Araflora, developed by grower G. Hoogenstrijd of the Netherlands. The name "whale" has no specific meaning, but the plant itself is quite unique. It produces long, horizontal leaves and broad, oval traps adorned with short marginal lashes. Each trap has two trigger hairs and a yellowish-green petiole, with a reddish inner mouth when exposed to strong light. Some traps even have dark red to nearly black trigger hairs, creating a striking contrast with the foliage. This cultivar is a vigorous grower in the summer and often produces many offshoots. It is officially registered with the ICPS, making it a special addition to any carnivorous plant collection.
