The "Triton" clone, sourced in 2009 by growers Sven Leonhardt and Mathias Maier of Denmark, is a vigorous cultivar with long horizontal broad leaves and oval-shaped traps that give it a cupped look. It is the largest cupped trap plant and one of the few that can still catch prey. The plant is mostly yellowish green, with the inner surface of the traps producing a faint pinkish-red when exposed to strong light. The name was jokingly given by Mathias after the 'King Triton' character from the Disney film The Little Mermaid. The "tri" in the name refers to the three characteristics of this plant: the chartreuse coloration, the fused trap morphology, and the fused marginal lashes (cilia). This cultivar is officially registered in the ICPS and is an impressive and fun addition to any collection.
