The "Red Dragon" is the classic of all red flytrap from the famous Atlanta Botanical Gardens in Georgia, introduced in 1996. Its name, 'Akai Ryu', means red dragon in Chinese. In the intense heat of summer, this cultivar may show hints of green, but as the nighttime temperatures cool, it puts on quite the show with large, deep, all-red traps and leaves. It is an upright grower with long, slender leaves. However, my experience with growing this cultivar indicates that it is susceptible to decline during the intense heat of summer. It seems to do much better with indirect sunlight during the peak hours of the day in summer. This is an ICPS officially registered cultivar.
