EEC Purple People Eater

The 'Dionaea M. EEC Purple People Eater' is a unique variety of carnivorous plant known for its long, toothed cilia. This plant has green traps and petioles with striking purple coloration on the petioles and outer traps, giving it a vibrant and eye-catching appearance. The uniform trap morphology and elongated cilia are reminiscent of its parent plant, the D. 'Jaws Smiley'. This distinctive plant adds a pop of color to any collection with its unique purple accents and functional traps that are able to seal and digest prey completely. With standard three trigger hairs per trap side, the 'Dionaea M. Eec Purple People Eater' is a striking and fully functional addition to any carnivorous plant collection.

This Dionaea m. ‘EEC Purple People Eater’ is the result of a collaboration with Evan Wang and Craig Heath. In the summer of 2018, Evan, Emmy, and Stephen Wang carefully carried out hand pollination and then isolated the flowers. The resulting seed came from crossing D. ‘FTS Maroon Monster’ with D. ‘Jaws Smiley’. Evan Wang, of Ev & Em Carnivorium (EEC), and Craig Heath, of Crazy Craig's Carnivorous Plants (CCCP), each grew a number of seeds from this cross, but only one plant developed the distinctive characteristics of the ‘EEC Purple People Eater’. The dedication and expertise of these breeders is evident in this unique plant.
