"Dentate" is a unique flytrap cultivar with triangular, jagged teeth along the edges of its traps, rather than the typical long eyelash-like cilia. Discovered by Leo Song Jr., of California State Fullerton, and Bob Hanrahan, of World Insectivorous Plants, in the 1970s, this cultivar was isolated from wild collected plants in California. While technically both "Dente" and "Dentate" traps should be called "Dentate traps," they have been given separate names due to variations in vigor. Some people have also referred to them as "shark's tooth" or "bear traps." This distinctive cultivar is officially registered with the International Carnivorous Plant Society.
